In a recent interview with News Central TV from 4:52 , George Ashiru, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairman in Lagos State, expressed optimism about the party’s ability to produce a presidential candidate through consensus, citing the caliber of political heavyweights who have joined its ranks.

Ashiru emphasized the national character of the ADC, highlighting the presence of prominent politicians across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. “I think the key thing is that the ADC, as is constituted is a national party,” he stated, pointing to the party’s leadership structure spanning the country.

The Lagos party chief listed several notable figures who have aligned with the ADC, including former governors and political stalwarts from different regions. According to him, the southwest boasts leaders such as “the Aregbesolas and so many others,” while the southeast counts former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi among its ranks. He also mentioned former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as representing the south-south, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, along with former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, as northern representatives.

Ashiru expressed confidence that these experienced politicians would navigate the party’s primary election process smoothly. “These are people that are used to winning and losing. They understand the principles of negotiating and giving up seats for one another,” he explained.

Looking ahead to the party’s primaries, the ADC chairman suggested that the outcome might surprise observers. “I think we’re going to have an extremely important primaries when the time comes. And I suspect that you’ll be surprised that there will be consensus by the delegates in terms of who might end up becoming the presidential candidate,” he said.

However, Ashiru cautioned against premature predictions, noting that more political heavyweights could still join the party. “It’s too early for us to predict that because we are only seeing the ones we have seen. There could be another 20, 30, 40 more juggernauts coming in the next few months,” he remarked, adding that when all aspirants emerge, “they will pool their resources together.” See, More, Here>>>
