Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central during a video interview from 4:20, has said that the six months suspension that was handed over to by the Senate leadership was unfair, alleging what they accused her of doing didn’t warrant six months suspension.
According to her, she claimed she didn’t throw chairs, fight nor insult anyone like previous aggrieved senators have done in the chamber without punishment, yet she was handed six months suspension for expressing her dissatisfaction.
According to her, she claimed that the Senate constitution says that in such instances, a senator should only be suspended for three weeks, but she was handed six months suspension.
She said, “What did I do on the floor of the Senate that amounts to gross misconduct? I didn’t fight, I didn’t insult anyone, I was not violent…so, what did I do? I didn’t tear anybody’s shirt. Even the last two week, we have seen a lot of heated debates on the floor, but nobody was suspended. Why? Because I’m a woman or because I am minority?”
Further talking, she said, “Because when you talk about the larger tribe… ethnicity there, we have about 20 Yoruba senators, the Hausas we have a lot of them but Ebira, I’m the only there. So why? I’m very disappointed that the senator from Kogi West took it upon himself; he didn’t even mention the fact that Senator Karimi cooked up a report, trying to label me as if I’m a KGB agent, infiltrating the National Assembly to disrupt the 10th Assembly and democracy. So, what I did was that I took a preemptive measure by writing to the police so that they could invite Senator Karimi to tell how he knew about the so-called KGB agent and the infiltration moves.”
