A Former Leader of Rivers State House of Assembly, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja has alleged that they established a caretaker committee for Local Government through a law during his tenure in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He stated that this law was formulated to address the potential inability to conduct elections, ensuring continuity in governance. He noted that this legislation has been utilized by various administrations, including those of Sir Dr. Peter Odili, Amaechi, and Wike.

He said in an interview with Channels TV From 18:41, ”We enacted a law that provided for a caretaker committee in Rivers state. When I was the leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly, we made that law in consideration of the fact that you may not be able to conduct the election.

That law was used by Sir Dr. Peter Odili and the same law was used by Amaechi and Wike. Now few months ago, the house amended a section of the law to say that chairmen can run for a period of 6 months. However, no law is done retrospectively in any democracy.”……Sēe Morē
