A member of a frontline military unit stationed in a northern forest recounted a previous encounter with ISWAP militants, choosing to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

As reported by Punch, the soldier described a harrowing event that took place some years ago at their outpost in Marte. He explained that the insurgents approached using three Hilux trucks and several motorcycles, all clad in black attire. Their surveillance system picked up the attackers’ movement from a distance. He recalled, “They came with three Hilux trucks and bikes, all in black. We spotted them early thanks to our cameras.”

The soldier noted that the militants initially paused at the outer perimeter of their camp, showing no immediate signs of aggression. One of the attackers reportedly climbed atop a truck and surveyed the base, while the soldiers kept a close watch on their every move. “One of them stood on their Hilux vehicle, just watching us. We also kept our eyes on them,” he said.

Eventually, the militants opened fire, triggering a confrontation. However, the soldier stated that the troops successfully held their ground and thwarted the assault. He added that the attackers’ behavior and tactics suggested they had undergone foreign-led training deep in the forest.

Hear him speak: “An instance happened when we were drilling a bore hole, in our permanent site in Monguno, and then, we discovered that the sand that is coming out from the ground is coloured. I asked the Head of Department of Science Laboratory Technology to take the sand and carry out some tests with it. What we discovered in that sand will surprise you. Most of the water that comes out, if you leave it overnight, you see it becomes oily. What does that mean? It means there is something underground.
