Former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has pointed out that both the Nigerian Police Force and the Military are understaffed, which has contributed to the difficulty in tackling insecurity across the country.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television from 16:24, he noted that there have been several advertisements urging willing citizens to join either the Nigerian Police Force or the Military. According to him, many people have refused to join these security agencies, making it harder to combat the persistent threat of insecurity in Nigeria.

He said: “First, we are under-policed because people refuse to join the police force, people refuse to join the military and you can not force them. The numbers are there.”

Kalu expressed concern that, as a country of over 200 million people, Nigeria does not have enough security personnel to safeguard every citizen.

However, he assured Nigerians that Federal Lawmakers like himself in the National Assembly, together with the President and the security forces, are working assiduously to address these pressing security challenges.

His words: “The Federal Government is trying its best, the state Governors are doing their best. The country is too large and the policing is not enough. People like the Inspector General of Police are having sleepless nights because you plan here and people sabotage you there.” View, More,
