Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has officially announced the full acquisition of the long-abandoned Aba Mega Mall, located in Osisioma Local Government Area, a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s economy. The acquisition follows the resolution of a protracted dispute over ownership of the commercial complex, which had been stagnant for nearly a decade.

Governor Otti made the announcement during a 3-day Mega Crusade of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, held within the premises of the mall. Addressing the crowd, Otti emphasized that the state government had successfully negotiated with all parties involved and paid off the debts owed by previous stakeholders to secure full control of the facility.

“I want to say that the place where you are (Aba Mega Mall complex), before now, there was a dispute. But just about three weeks ago, we resolved the dispute, paid off everybody that was being owed, and the place has reverted to the State Government,” Otti said, much to the delight of the gathering.

The acquisition of the mall, a multimillion-dollar investment, had long been mired in disputes, leaving the facility dormant and its potential untapped. The project, once a symbol of economic hope for the region, had been inoperative for 10 years, leading to wasted investments by prior administrations.

However, Otti’s administration has breathed new life into the project, marking a significant step towards turning Aba Mega Mall into a vibrant commercial hub. The governor emphasized that no force was used in the takeover, with the government engaging in peaceful negotiations and paying off creditors, including banks.

“We didn’t want to use force. We called all of them and asked them, ‘how much are you being owed?’ We paid all, even paid their bankers,” Otti affirmed.

Looking ahead, the governor expressed confidence that the mall would soon be fully operational, transforming into a major asset for Abia’s industrial and commercial sectors. He assured the people that, in a few months, the transformation would be evident, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to putting the facility to effective use.
