A prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has declared that the party will not play a subordinate role in the 202 general elections.

Instead, he projected the NNPP as a decisive power broker that will determine who becomes Nigeria’s next president in 2027.

According to the report by Punch on Tuesday, Galadima said, “We are the people who will determine who will be the President of Nigeria in 2027.”

His remarks come amid growing speculation about possible alignments between opposition figures and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dismissing reports that the NNPP’s national leader and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was in talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Galadima described Kwankwaso as an “immovable political force” with the strength to resist pressure.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, he also weighed in on the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle, accusing President Tinubu of political doublespeak.

According to him, Tinubu once supported the ascension of Muhammadu Sanusi II to the throne, only for his government to now challenge Sanusi’s reinstatement by the NNPP-led Kano government.

He further accused the Federal Government of using security agencies and the courts to meddle in Kano politics as part of a broader strategy to weaken Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, which commands deep grassroots support in northern Nigeria – particularly Kano – has positioned Kwankwaso as a formidable force in the nation’s political landscape.
