According to a report by Al Jazeera, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has voiced “deep concern” following a surge of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza that has killed more than 100 Palestinians, marking the deadliest escalation since the ceasefire took effect.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry ahead of his scheduled visit to the Middle East, Wadephul urged Israel to limit its military actions to avoid further civilian casualties. “We appeal to Israel to exercise military restraint in order to prevent further suffering,” he said.
The latest outbreak of violence has shattered the fragile calm established under the ceasefire agreement, with reports of widespread destruction across several neighborhoods in Gaza. Health officials in the enclave have confirmed that many of the victims include women and children, as hospitals struggle to cope with the growing number of casualties.
Wadephul’s remarks come as international concern mounts over the renewed conflict. Several humanitarian organizations have warned that continued airstrikes could worsen Gaza’s already dire humanitarian situation, which has been compounded by years of blockade and repeated rounds of fighting.
The German foreign minister emphasized the need for diplomatic engagement to prevent a complete breakdown of the truce and called for renewed efforts toward de-escalation. His upcoming trip to the region aims to support mediation initiatives and reaffirm Germany’s commitment to a peaceful resolution based on dialogue and international law.
Berlin has long advocated for a two-state solution and continues to urge both Israel and Palestinian factions to avoid actions that could further inflame tensions. Wadephul’s statement reflects growing unease in Europe over the deteriorating situation and the potential for the violence to spread beyond Gaza. View, More,
