Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has addressed and strongly refuted a controversial video circulating on social media, in which a female church member claimed that women who use rubber bands to tie their hair are destined for hell. The woman alleged that she received a divine revelation warning against the use of rubber for hair, insisting that only string is acceptable. She also claimed that Pastor Kumuyi’s late wife had to repent for using rubber ties before her passing.
During a workers’ meeting, Pastor Kumuyi responded directly to these statements, describing them as baseless and misleading. He expressed deep concern about the growing trend of believers prioritizing trivial outward appearances over the core message of Christianity. According to him, such claims are not only unbiblical but also divert attention from the essential spiritual goals of salvation, sanctification, and living a righteous life.
“I lived with my wife. She never used anything like that. There was nothing to repent from,” he said. “These are complete lies and nonsense.” Kumuyi criticized the spread of fear-based teachings and visions that have no grounding in scripture, warning that they can mislead congregants and damage the integrity of the ministry.
He also questioned why the church leadership in the woman’s region had not intervened earlier, calling for swift corrective action. Pastor Kumuyi emphasized that the role of the church is not to police personal grooming habits but to lead people into a deeper relationship with God based on truth and righteousness.
In his concluding remarks, he urged the church to stay focused on preaching the gospel and avoid being swayed by sensational, unverified claims that detract from the true purpose of Christian faith.
