United States Congressman, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden for designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) and entrusting him with the responsibility of leading a congressional investigation into the reported persecution of Christians in the country.

In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Moore thanked President Biden for the confidence reposed in him, vowing to ensure that the U.S. Congress takes a firm stance against religious persecution anywhere in the world. “Thank you @POTUS for designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, and asking me to lead the investigation into this horrific persecution in Congress,” he wrote.

Moore emphasized that the United States “will never turn a blind eye to the suffering of our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria or across the world.” He described the situation as deeply troubling and deserving of global attention, noting that religious freedom is a fundamental human right that must be protected by all democratic nations.

The U.S. government’s decision to re-list Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern follows mounting reports of religiously motivated violence, including attacks on Christian communities by extremist groups such as Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed bandits.

Analysts believe that the congressional probe led by Moore could influence Washington’s foreign policy toward Nigeria, including humanitarian aid and security cooperation.

While some Nigerian religious groups have welcomed the move, calling it a step toward global accountability, others caution that it could be exploited for political or foreign intervention purposes. View, More,
