President of the Save Nigeria Group, USA, Stephen Osemwegie, has raised concerns over the effectiveness of the growing security partnership between Nigeria and the United States amid persistent insurgent attacks across parts of the country.
Osemwegie made the remarks during an interview from 6:45 on Channels Television, where he reacted to reports of collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in tackling insecurity. The partnership has reportedly included the deployment of American troops and other forms of military support aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the outcomes so far, Osemwegie said, “The State Department, the Congress and everyone is concerned that after the US-Nigerian partnership, after the deployment of 200 troops to Nigeria, we hear that they are somewhere in Bauchi. All we see is more killings, more deaths.” His statement reflects growing frustration over the continued wave of violence despite international assistance.
According to him, the expectations surrounding the partnership have not been met, as insecurity remains widespread, particularly in regions affected by insurgent activities. He noted that the continued loss of lives raises serious questions about the strategy, coordination, and overall impact of foreign military involvement.
Osemwegie further suggested that both Nigerian authorities and their international partners must reassess their approach to tackling insecurity. He emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and more effective deployment of resources to ensure that such collaborations yield tangible results. Read_More…
