Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has expressed frustration over the lack of banking infrastructure in northern Nigeria, urging the region to stop complaining and begin taking action to solve its problems.

This was reported by LEADERSHIP on Monday, November 17, 2025, following a public address where Governor Sani highlighted the imbalance in financial access across the country.

He said that although Nigeria has over 4,000 bank branches, only Kaduna and Kano states have about 100 combined. He pointed out that some southern states with far smaller populations than Kano, which has 44 local governments, have significantly more bank branches.

He made the statement while discussing his administration’s efforts to promote financial inclusion.

Governor Sani said one of his first decisions in office was to sign an Executive Order focused on expanding access to financial services. According to him, within one year, over 2.1 million low-income individuals were integrated into the formal banking system.

Sani said,

‘’Today as we are speaking, there are over 4,000 branches of national banks in Nigeria. But only Kaduna and Kano states have about 100 branches. But if you go to some states in the south that are not even up to 20% of the population of Kano state, they have more bank branches than Kano state which has 44 local governments.” View, More,
