The Senate on Wednesday began the screening of retired General Christopher Musa, recently nominated by President Bola Tinubu to serve as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. During the session, Musa spoke firmly about his plans to strengthen the military and tackle the country’s security problems.
According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, December, 2025, he assured lawmakers that his priority is to make Nigeria safer, explaining that security cannot improve without teamwork from both the armed forces and citizens. He described the criminal groups causing violence across the country as “evil forces” and said the nation must unite against them.
While answering questions, Musa reacted to two troubling incidents, the kidnapping of students in Maga, Kebbi State, and the capture of Maj. Gen. Uba by terrorists. Musa said he found it shocking that a senior officer like General Uba was alone without his troops, stressing that the situation raised serious concerns.
He promised full and transparent investigations into both events. Musa made it clear that under his watch, there would be no tolerance for indiscipline or cowardice in the military. Commanders and soldiers alike, he said, must remain professional and alert at all times.
Musa also questioned why troops reportedly left their duty post shortly before the school abductions occurred. He vowed that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing would be punished.
Drawing from his nearly four decades in the military, Musa expressed confidence that Nigeria can win the fight against insecurity, if everyone works together. He promised a constant review of military operations and said he would return to the Senate to request the tools and support needed to restore peace across the country.
In his words, “I was wondering how a general himself was alone when he was supposed to be with his troops; these are questions that need answering.” View, More,
