According to a report by The Times of Israel, US President Donald Trump used his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to sharply criticize recent moves by Western nations to recognize a Palestinian state, warning that such actions risk emboldening Hamas and prolonging the war in Gaza.
Trump, who said he has been “deeply engaged” in efforts to secure a ceasefire, argued that Hamas has rejected repeated opportunities for peace. “Unfortunately, Hamas has repeatedly rejected reasonable offers to make peace,” he declared. “We can’t forget October 7, can we?”
Turning his criticism toward Western capitals, Trump charged that state recognition effectively rewards violence. “Now, as if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state,” he said. “The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities, including October 7, even while they refuse to release the hostages or accept a ceasefire.”
The president urged world leaders to adopt a united stance, centered on the return of hostages still held in Gaza. “Instead of giving in to Hamas’s ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message: Release the hostages now,” he said, drawing applause inside the chamber.
Trump also reiterated his demand for an immediate halt to the conflict. “We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately,” he said. “We immediately have to negotiate peace. We gotta get the hostages back. I want them all back at once — the living and the dead — not in drips.”
According to Trump, 20 living hostages remain in captivity, though he incorrectly claimed that 38 bodies were also being held, while Israeli officials have put the number at 28.
The remarks come as an increasing number of European and Western nations, including France, Britain, Canada, and Australia, have formally recognized Palestinian statehood in recent days. While Palestinians have welcomed the wave of recognition as long overdue, Israel has rejected the move, saying it undermines efforts to secure peace and emboldens terror groups. See, More, Here>>>>
