According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin has commended U.S. President Donald Trump for his “significant efforts” in addressing some of the world’s most challenging conflicts, saying the American leader is doing “a lot” to find solutions to long-standing global crises.

Putin made the remarks on Friday, Oct. 10, during a press conference in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, as he concluded a three-day official visit to the Central Asian nation. His comments came shortly after the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as the recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize an award for which Trump had reportedly been nominated by several countries.

Asked about the decision, Putin said it was not his place to judge who should or should not receive the prestigious prize, but added that he believes the Nobel Committee has, in the past, made controversial choices. “There have been cases where the committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to people who did nothing for peace,” Putin remarked. “Such decisions have caused enormous damage to the award’s credibility and reputation.”

While refraining from directly commenting on whether Trump should have been chosen for the prize, Putin acknowledged what he described as the U.S. president’s active role in pursuing peace initiatives. “He really does a lot to resolve complex crises that have lasted for years, even decades,” he said, referring to Trump’s diplomatic interventions and proposals for conflict zones, including Gaza.

Putin highlighted Trump’s recently unveiled 20-point plan for stabilizing Gaza, calling it a potentially “historic event” if fully implemented. He also expressed confidence in Trump’s approach to the war in Ukraine, saying the American leader is “sincerely striving to bring an end to the conflict that has persisted for over three and a half years.”

The Russian president’s remarks come amid shifting global dynamics as several countries express cautious optimism about renewed diplomatic engagement in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Analysts note that Putin’s praise of Trump reflects Moscow’s recognition of Washington’s influence in shaping future negotiations on both fronts.

Earlier on Friday, the Nobel Committee said Machado was selected for her “unwavering commitment to democracy and human rights” in Venezuela. Her recognition comes amid mounting international attention on political reforms in Latin America and growing calls for peaceful transitions of power. See, More, Here>>>
