Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the Federal House of Representatives, during an interview with The Sun correspondent, spoke about the issue of insecurity ravaging his consistency and Plateau State at large, the 2027 general elections, among other issues.
When he was asked if it was the right time for APC members and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s supporters, to start campaigning for his 2027 presidential bid, Hon Gadgi said, “It happened during Obasanjo. After one year, Obasanjo and Atiku started campaigning for re-election. It happened during Yar’Adua. He died and after two, three months, Goodluck and his people, his cabinet started campaigning. Death of a serving president and not up to six months later, people started putting posters, Jonathan for President.”
Further speaking, he said that when Muhammadu Buhari first took office, discussions about his re-election in 2019 started from the very first year of his first term, and back then, no one considered it an issue. However, he noted that now, after two years in office, when President Tinubu’s supporters begin to talk about his re-election, it suddenly becomes a problem.
He explained that it was not about whether the discussions were early or late, but rather because the President had many enemies who were scared they could not defeat him in 2027. Therefore, they were looking for any minor issue to escalate and use as propaganda. He emphasized that all Nigerians had experienced similar political patterns with presidents since 1999, and questioned why this time was seen as unique or interesting.
He revealed that from the day Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023, he personally started lobbying and talking to people to support his re-election. He said he had witnessed Tinubu’s achievements as governor, transforming Lagos from one of the worst and most criminal economies in West Africa to one of the best economies in Africa, and that was why he believed in him.
