Public affairs analyst, Abubakar Na Jakku, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu exploited religious sentiment to secure electoral support, only to neglect the interests of those same supporters after assuming office. He claimed that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was strategically used to sway northern voters, but now, Muslims are among those suffering most under the current administration.
He further alleged that the presidency’s announcement that 62% of federal appointments were given to Christians, noting that it was made just before Tinubu’s departure to the Vatican. He viewed the move as a divisive and politically calculated gesture, questioning the motivation behind it. He stated such tactics only deepen national division and signal a government increasingly disconnected from its original base.
He said in a recent interview with Trust TV, “He (Tinubu) used religion to win us and to support him. He said Muslim-Muslim ticket—but it’s Muslims who are catching hell under his administration. He used it as a sentiment. He knew that our people would fall for it. Look—on the eve of his departure to the Vatican, they announced shamelessly that 62% of his appointments were Christians. You don’t say this. He’s dividing the country. You don’t announce gleefully, triumphantly. Who do you want to please, Vatican? Did Vatican vote for you?
