According to Punch on November 2, 2025, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, shared on social media that the President was already prepared for the crisis with the United States.

Onanuga said Tinubu’s strong words to the new military chiefs last Thursday showed he expected the trouble coming from America. The President told them Nigerians want real results, no excuses. He urged them to crush armed groups causing violence in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South.

The next day, the U.S. labeled Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern over religious freedom issues. Nigeria quickly rejected this, saying it did not reflect the country’s efforts to protect all religions.

Tension rose further on November 1 when U.S. President Donald Trump threatened military action to wipe out Islamic terrorists in Nigeria if the violence continued.

Onanuga’s message on Sunday framed President Tinubu’s earlier speech as a smart and timely step to restore peace and stop any foreign interference in Nigeria’s affairs. This shows the government is not caught off guard but ready to protect Nigerians and keep the country stable. View, More,
