Architect Uche Rochas, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the Federal Government’s approval of a $9 million lobbying contract in the United States is a misuse of public funds aimed at polishing the image of the current administration. He said previous administrations used lobbying to secure national benefits, not personal political gains.
In a post shared on his verified X account, Rochas said that under President Olusegun Obasanjo, the PDP government hired lobbyists to help Nigeria obtain debt relief.
He argued that the Tinubu administration, in contrast, is spending millions to hire foreign lobbyists to improve its public image abroad, despite growing criticism at home.
Rochas emphasized that while lobbying is not new in Nigerian politics, the intent behind it matters. He said the current administration’s approach appears self-serving and disconnected from the country’s economic realities.
In his words, “The previous administration, such as the PDP government under OBJ, hired and paid lobbyists to help Nigeria secure debt relief. The Tinubu government, on the other hand, is paying American loyalists to help launder the image of his publicly disgraced administration. Same lobby, different purpose.” See More
