Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of turning hunger and poverty into weapons against Nigerians, as reported by THE GUARDIAN.
He made this known during an interview where he criticised the current government for worsening the lives of ordinary citizens.
Dalung said President Tinubu is the only Nigerian leader who has openly created a divide between himself and the people.
He claimed the government is making life harder for citizens while those in power continue to live in comfort.
He dismissed recent defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling them meaningless.
According to him, those who joined the APC did so out of fear and for personal gain, not because of genuine support for the president.
He made reference to the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Dalung questioned whether the people would truly follow such politicians, especially when their mandates are controversial.
Dalung stated that political endorsements in the APC hold no real value.
He said many leaders joining the party are simply trying to escape justice.
In his words, it is a gathering of people who have wronged Nigerians and want forgiveness through politics.
Even if all state governors move to the APC, Dalung believes Tinubu will still struggle in the 2027 elections.
He said Nigerians are suffering under his leadership and that the president does not seem sorry for the hardship he has caused.
Dalung added that Tinubu’s family lives in luxury while asking Nigerians to make sacrifices.
He questioned when the leaders themselves would sacrifice for the country.
Dalung expressed support for a new political coalition forming ahead of 2027.
He said it is different from past efforts because it has the support of poor Nigerians.
“Tinubu is going to slug it out with the masses because he is the only president who has drawn a battle line between him and the masses by weaponising hunger, poverty and hardship.”
“This coalition is different from all attempted coalitions since the First Republic. The president has declared himself the enemy of the poor and the poor are dying every day of hunger, poverty, malnutrition. The coalition is very popular among the poor people; that is the truth,” he said.
