Oba Frederick Obateru, the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, has shared why he supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. Obateru said that when Tinubu came to his kingdom to campaign, he personally raised Tinubu’s hand in support.
In a video shared by Control TV from 3:57, Obateru said he supported Tinubu because of a bold action Tinubu took. He said Tinubu told then-President Muhammadu Buhari that he (Tinubu) would become the next president after him and Buhari did not say anything in response.
Obateru said he admired Tinubu’s courage to say that directly to Buhari without fear. He said this was why he decided to vote for Tinubu.
In Obateru’s words: “I said I am doing it for you not because of money but because you did one thing which I like and will live for ever to remember which nobody has done in this country. For you to go to Buhari and tell him that, ‘When you leave this seat I am going to be the next president’ boldly, Buhari couldn’t say anything he was looking at you. I said that is why I want to vote for you. I am not asking you for money”
