Chijioke Ihunwo, a local government chairman, dismissed claims that the court had affirmed Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. His comments were made in a video clip released by TVC News on their official YouTube channel.

According to Ihunwo, the withdrawal of an appeal by the Rivers State Governor was being misinterpreted by some individuals, leading to premature celebrations. He clarified that Governor Siminalayi Fubara decided to drop the appeal because 2024 had passed and the legal battle was no longer necessary.

The words of Ihunwo read, “yesterday, what happened in Abuja is just an incident where the governor of Rivers State withdrew his appeal and said he is no longer interested in the matter because 2024 has passed and we are in 2025. We are also aware that some people were jubilating that they had won.
