Public Affairs Analyst Ilyasu Gadu has argued that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji operates in areas where modern technology should enable security forces to easily track and locate him.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust from 7:33, Gadu emphasized that contemporary surveillance capabilities make it possible to monitor criminal activities in remote locations. “In this day and age, in the technological era that we live in, some of these things—in terms of linkages and in terms of tracking people—can be tracked easily, can be traced easily; where they call or where they even live can be tracked,” he stated.
The analyst specifically referenced Turji’s operational area as particularly suitable for electronic surveillance and monitoring. “Those areas where he (Bello Turji) lives and operates are areas where every call or communication gadget can be tracked. And by now, you would have expected the security forces to be able to say, ‘Look, we’ve mapped out this area. Anything coming from that area will be tapped,” Gadu explained.
The analyst expressed concern about inconsistencies in Nigeria’s approach to addressing insecurity, describing the conflict as an asymmetrical war being waged in affected regions. According to the security expert, the perpetrators of violence have developed sophisticated tactics that make them difficult to track, apprehend, and eliminate.
He noted that the insurgents and bandits have adopted a strategy that accepts significant casualties among their ranks while simultaneously maximizing damage to the overall security situation. The analyst characterized this as a calculated approach where these groups are willing to sustain heavy losses in pursuit of their objectives.
