According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, August 3, 2025, former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised the alarm over the future of Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that removing the ruling party from power in 2027 is “the fight of our lives.”
Speaking during a grassroots mobilisation tour in Sokoto State on Saturday, El-Rufai made it clear that the APC has strayed far from its founding ideals and now poses a threat to national unity and progress. “This is the fight of our lives,” he said, warning that another APC administration could further damage Nigeria’s social fabric.
According to El-Rufai, his entry into politics was never about wealth or personal advancement. “I didn’t enter politics to enrich myself but to serve,” he stated. “And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation.”
The former governor accused the APC of becoming “incompetent and clannish,” saying the party has failed to deliver on its promises and has lost its moral compass. He said the country could not afford to continue under such leadership without suffering long-term consequences.
El-Rufai, who is currently spearheading efforts to form a united opposition coalition, stressed the need for a political shift driven by competence and vision. He noted that mobilisation efforts are already underway across the six geopolitical zones to rally Nigerians for change ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If we allow this APC government another term, what remains of Nigeria’s unity and economy may be completely eroded,” he said.
His comments come amid growing discontent among citizens over inflation, insecurity, and perceived government insensitivity. El-Rufai urged Nigerians to reject political apathy and take an active role in electing credible leaders.
