Dr. Gbenga Hashim, a former presidential candidate and prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly placing political ambitions above the safety and unity of the nation.

In a recent statement reported by THE SUN on Sunday October 12 2025, Hashim expressed concern that the APC is more focused on building alliances for the 2027 elections than confronting Nigeria’s escalating security challenges the party’s leadership is actively pursuing opposition governors in a bid to strengthen its electoral base, while neglecting the urgent need to address violent extremism and national disunity.

According to Hashim, this strategy undermines efforts to foster cohesion and tackle threats that continue to destabilize communities across the country.

Hashim further alleged that the APC’s actions are deepening regional divisions, particularly between the North and South, rather than promoting inclusive governance. The PDP stalwart urged the government to shift its focus from partisan gains to national interest, emphasizing that genuine leadership requires prioritizing the protection of citizens and the preservation of Nigeria’s unity above all else.
