Political commentator Obiarukwe Ndukwe has shed new light on the ongoing efforts to resolve the lingering political tensions between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. In an exclusive interview with TVC, Ndukwe disclosed that both leaders have begun taking deliberate steps toward reconciliation after months of escalating disputes that threatened to destabilize the state’s political landscape.
According to Ndukwe, a significant breakthrough occurred recently when Governor Fubara visited Wike at his private residence. Notably, he was not alone on this important mission. He was accompanied by an influential delegation comprising the Governor of Ebonyi State, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, and respected elder statesman, former Governor Olusegun Osoba. Their presence was seen as a strategic move, emphasizing the broader political interest in mending fences between the two powerful figures.
Ndukwe further explained that the visit was not marked by formality or hesitation. In a telling moment, Fubara entered Wike’s home with ease and familiarity, confidently making his way to the living room without needing guidance. This small but significant detail, Ndukwe noted, speaks volumes about the deep personal and political relationship the two once shared before their fallout.
In Ndukwe’s words: “Fubara did not go alone to meet with Wike, he went with the governor of Ebonyi State was there, the governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun was there, former Governor Olusegun Osoba was there. They took him to Wike’s house and when he got in there he walked straight to Wike’s living room because that is a house that he is used to, he is familiar with. It is a familiar terrain.”
The meeting, orchestrated with the involvement of key political heavyweights, suggests that influential forces within and beyond Rivers State are invested in restoring unity. Whether this initial move will lead to a lasting truce remains to be seen, but for now, the groundwork for peace appears to have been laid.
