Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in 19 Northern states and the FCT, Reverend Joseph Hayab, has accused the previous government of releasing names of terrorism sponsors who he describes as insignificant individuals rather than the powerful figures actually funding terrorist activities.
Speaking in an interview with AIT News, Reverend Hayab called for decisive action against all terrorism sponsors regardless of their status or position in society. “The Nigerian government should draw a line. Enough is enough of shielding enemies of your country. Enough is enough of tolerating enemies of your country. Enough is enough of playing softly with people who are destroying the future of this country, putting the larger Nigerian population in pain and in sorrow. Nigerians have suffered. But actually, everybody in this country today is a victim,” he stated.
The CAN chairman questioned the authenticity of previously released names of terrorism sponsors. “So those who are sponsoring terrorism—and Nigerians have their names. We shouldn’t be bringing up some names. The other time they told us the names of the terrorism sponsors but when you just read those names, you realize they were also nobodies who probably are struggling,” Hayab said.
He demanded that the government pursue all terrorism sponsors without regard to their social or political status. “If there is anybody, however mighty he is in this country, whatever office he occupies, whatever name he has, but he is a sponsor of terrorism, the Nigerian government must not allow him to go scot-free,” the reverend declared.
Reverend Hayab emphasized that terrorism cannot survive without significant financial backing from influential figures. He called on the National Security Adviser and security agencies to intensify intelligence operations, identify the real sources of terrorist funding, and ensure proper prosecution to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria.
