Outspoken Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has ignited a fresh wave of political tension following a blistering critique of the Tinubu administration, accusing it of betraying the northern region that heavily supported the president in the last election.

In a recent public address that has since gone viral, the Adamawa North senator did not mince words as he accused the federal government of marginalizing the North in both federal appointments and development projects. Abbo expressed outrage over what he termed “a dangerous imbalance,” citing the allocation of N13 trillion to a single project while northern regions allegedly suffer neglect.

“How do you justify spending N13 trillion on one project and giving the North next to nothing?” he asked pointedly. “The North gave over 63% of the votes to President Tinubu, yet today we feel completely abandoned. How do you run a country like that?”

Drawing comparisons to past administrations, particularly that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Abbo recalled how key federal positions were more regionally balanced, with northerners occupying influential roles such as the Minister of Works and the Governor of the Central Bank. “Today,” he said, “we feel Tinubu does not love the North.”

The senator’s emotionally charged remarks went further, warning of rising discontent across the country. “Suspicion alone is enough to keep a man awake all night. What we see now is fear, hunger, and insecurity gripping our people again.”

Abbo also issued a stern warning to the political establishment, declaring that Nigerians are no longer willing to endure silent suffering. “If they think they can use our own commonwealth to fight us, they’re in for a rude shock,” he said. “The days of silent suffering are over.”

According to the senator, a growing coalition of frustrated citizens across the North, South, and East is already taking shape, with a singular focus: to unseat the Tinubu-led administration by the 2027 general elections.

As tensions continue to rise, Abbo’s statement may signal the start of a broader political reckoning, one that could reshape the country’s political landscape in the coming years.
