Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has warned that Nigeria’s unity is under serious threat, stating that even if the Igbos take power, the country’s deep divisions will not disappear, as reported by DAILY POST.
Ayodele explained that tribal, religious, and political differences continue to weaken the nation and stressed that true unity cannot come from a change in leadership alone, according to him, the root causes of disunity must be addressed to avoid further crises.
He noted that Nigeria remains divided along ethnic lines, with many tribes distrusting one another.
This lack of trust, he said, is a major reason why the country struggles with stability and warned that if these divisions persist, they could lead to a larger crisis.
Ayodele urged the government to take urgent action to rebuild national unity and suggested restructuring the system and holding a referendum to address key issues.
He also stated that without a genuine effort to unite the people, political changes will not bring lasting peace.
The religious leader stressed that unity is necessary for national progress and warned that if the government does not act quickly, Nigeria could face serious instability in the future.
“They will need to conduct a form of referendum to reset everything. Even if the Igbos get to power tomorrow, there will still be issues. Our unity is seriously threatened.”
“We need to truly unite, and this issue is present everywhere even among those working for the president, in the civil service, just everywhere,” he said.
