According to Daily post, a political storm is brewing over former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s involvement in the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Allegations have surfaced that Obi was tricked into joining the coalition, which is believed to be orchestrated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Katchy Ononuju, Obi’s former Special Adviser on Public Affairs, claimed the former Anambra governor was misled into joining the ADC coalition with promises that the presidential ticket would be zoned to the South. Ononuju stated that Obi was told negotiations would follow post-inauguration, which never happened.
“The coalition was a trick,” Ononuju said. “They made him believe the South would be favored, but the real plan was to repackage Atiku.”
Amid speculation that Atiku may emerge as the coalition’s presidential candidate in 2027, he declared at a public function: “If elected, we will declare war against corruption and punish the guilty.”
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has denied any agreement for a joint ticket, affirming his commitment to a single presidential term if elected. “If there is any agreement to serve for four years, I will comply,” he asserted.
Ononuju warned that Obi’s political legacy would be jeopardized if he accepted a vice-presidential role. “The youths will walk away. A vice president’s voice is muted. Obi will die politically,” he said.
However, Obidient Movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko dismissed the allegations as distractions. “Obi remains with the Labour Party. The coalition is for 2027. He was not tricked,” Tanko maintained.
