Isaac Balami, a former Labour Party spokesperson, has accused the Labour Party former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his supporters for allegedly abandoning Dr. Doyin Okupe after his major surgery in the UK. Balami also expressed disappointment that neither Obi nor the Labour Party has issued a tribute honoring Okupe since his passing.
In media coverage by Sahara TV, Balami recounted the disturbing events following Okupe’s medical procedure: “One day after a major surgery in the UK, we all landed in Abuja with the people who he labored for. They entered their cars and they saw how he crawled to the car after a major surgery. For 6 hours he couldn’t sleep on board and they were beside him. They didn’t call him for 18 months, and they can’t even say a word to say he was a good man. He was persecuted because of them, yet they did not do anything for him.”
Balami further addressed the criticism Okupe faced after joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). While many claimed Okupe’s party switch was financially motivated, Balami strongly disputed this characterization. According to him, Okupe had privately confided that he had “seen it all” and simply wished to return to associates who had treated him better.
