A dramatic political saga is unfolding in Nigeria as traditional northern Emirs are reportedly engaging in behind-the-scenes efforts to persuade Atiku Abubakar, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to remain with the party.

This is said to come despite public insults directed at him by associates of these same leaders on social media platforms like X. The development, highlighted in a post by his aide Demola Olarewaju on Tuesday July 8, 2025, is said to underscore the complex interplay of respect and strategy in Nigerian politics.

“They’re now sending Emirs to beg Atiku not to leave PDP – the same people who have been sending their sons to openly insult the man on this app,” Olarewaju wrote, quoting an earlier post by Dr. OkaforE. The analyst added, “If you let people define you or your path in this life, you’ll end up blaming yourself.”

This move follows Atiku’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside former rival Peter Obi in 2025, aiming to form a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, as reported by Punch.
