Daboikiabo Warmate, National Leader of the Concerned PDP League, downplayed the idea of a crisis within the PDP, stating that the party is simply under more scrutiny because it remains the only significant political force in Nigeria today. According to him, the party’s history since 1999 has always attracted attention, and whatever actions it takes become newsworthy. He emphasized that there is no real crisis, but rather, some disgruntled elements within the National Working Committee (NWC) have tried to stir up trouble.
He attributed the unrest to the sponsorship of these elements by the Governor of Rivers State, accusing the governor of attempting to create chaos within the party. He implied that the situation is more about political maneuvering than an actual crisis.
He said in an interview with Trust TV from 10:42, “We don’t really have crisis. We are just being talked about because we are the only party that exists today in Nigeria. We know the history of PDP right from 1999, so whatever we do makes news, that is just it. So we don’t really have crisis. Some disgruntled elements within the NWC decided to rear their ugly heads; that was what happened this morning. And it because the governor of rivers state is sponsoring them to cause crisis in the state.”
