Former Zamfara State Senator Garba Marafa has alleged that Islamic cleric Sheikh Bello Asada made serious accusations about northern leaders’ involvement in banditry, yet security agencies have failed to investigate the claims.
Speaking during an interview from 14:50 with Channels TV, Senator Marafa highlighted the cleric’s public challenge to authorities. “There is a famous cleric in Sokoto, Sheikh Asada, who has made very weighty allegations and even challenged the authorities to call him or to sue him if what he said is wrong. Now, the issue is, what was done out of that? Nothing has been done up till today. Nothing,” he said.
The former lawmaker identified two dimensions to the security crisis: bandits operating in forests and their collaborators within cities, including some in government positions.
Senator Marafa questioned why authorities cannot apprehend urban collaborators even when identifying forest-based bandits proves difficult. He noted that communities know these collaborators but fear speaking out because informants face elimination.
Sheikh Bello Asada, a controversial Sokoto-based cleric, have once alleged that a former northern governor purchased vehicles for bandit leaders including Halilu Sububu (now eliminated), Ado Aliero, and Bello Turji. View, More,
