Mike Arnold, a former Mayor of Blanco City in Texas, USA, called on the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar III, to prove that he was not involved in what he described as “jihad genocide” and widespread killings in Nigeria.

According to The Punch, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto dismissed Arnold’s comments as groundless and undeserving of a response, stating that the Sultan would not reply to such accusations.

Reports indicated that the conflict began after Arnold, who founded Africa Arise International, made several social media posts accusing the Sultan of being involved in mass killings and the theft of resources in northern Nigeria.

The Sultan had earlier denied claims that Christians were being subjected to genocide in the North, describing such allegations as false and divisive while urging the public to verify any information they encountered on social media.

The former Mayor further alleged that the Sultan had done little to curb the growing activities of militant Fulani groups accused of carrying out numerous attacks.

He noted that although the Sultan had once issued a fatwa against Boko Haram after the group challenged his authority, he had not taken any similar action against the Fulani militants.

Further talking, he said, “There have been more than 7,000 Christians massacred this year in his territory.
