Jack Epelle, a respected elder in Rivers State, has criticized the attempts by the Pro-Wike supporters to stop the just held local government election in Rivers state. He stated that the true intention behind this move is to prevent the state from receiving its local government allocation.

He argued that this is a deliberate attempt to deny the people of Rivers State their rightful access to essential services such as healthcare, quality education, and livelihood opportunities. He expressed his disappointment and outrage at the fact that individuals who previously advocated for local government elections are now working to prevent them from taking place. He described this sudden change of heart as “sheer wickedness” and “beyond political melodrama”. He emphasized that the consequences of such actions would be devastating for the people of Rivers State, who would be denied their basic rights and opportunities for growth and development.

He said in an interview with Arise TV from 7:13, ”It’s unfortunate that people that initially clamored for the local government election when they were in office are now turning around to say the election shouldn’t hold. The whole focus is to make it impossible for the state to access her allocation.

And this is sheer wickedness, it is beyond political melodrama which is playing out in my state. I call this sheer wickedness because you will deny the people access to health, you will deny them access to Quality education and you will also deny the people their means of livelihood. Why would anybody get involved in this kind of venture at the expense of his own state, that to me is wickedness and selfishness.”
