Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has criticised Western nations for what he described as persistent attempts to impose their cultural norms on women across the world.

In a statement posted on his verified Twitter account, Khamenei accused Western countries of promoting an ideology that equates women’s empowerment with abandoning traditional or religious values—particularly the hijab.

According to him, the West has long advanced the notion that women who choose to observe the Islamic hijab limit their own potential and ability to progress. He described this claim as “nonsensical logic,” arguing that it reflects both cultural arrogance and an inability to respect diverse social systems.

Khamenei insisted that the Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently disproved these assumptions through the achievements of Iranian women across various sectors. He highlighted women’s growing roles in science, technology, medicine, politics, and education as evidence that hijab does not hinder success or societal contribution.

“The West insists on exporting its culture regarding women,” he wrote. “They even argue that if a woman observes hijab and sets these limitations for herself, she won’t be able to progress. The Islamic Republic has refuted that nonsensical logic.”

The Supreme Leader’s remarks come amid ongoing debates—both inside and outside Iran—on women’s rights, dress codes, and personal freedoms. While critics argue that Iran’s compulsory hijab laws restrict women’s autonomy, Iranian officials maintain that hijab represents moral values, cultural identity, and religious duty. View, More,
