The political prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar suffered a fresh blow on Tuesday as a prominent public affairs analyst declared that the veteran opposition figure stands no realistic chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, urging him instead to set his sights on 2031.

Atiku, who has contested the Nigerian presidency multiple times, is widely expected to seek the ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as the party positions itself as the leading alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the next election cycle.

However, speaking in a recent interview from 15:22 aired on Arise News, public affairs analyst Kenny Okolugbo argued that the political climate firmly favours President Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing the administration’s economic stabilisation efforts and the structural advantage of an incumbent presidency as factors working heavily against any northern challenger at this time.
