According to a report by Times of Israel, on August 5, 2025, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has delivered a scathing condemnation of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, asserting that its purpose has shifted from stated military objectives to a brutal campaign of destruction aimed at the Palestinian people.

His remarks represent one of the most forceful critiques from a major regional leader deeply involved in mediation efforts.

Speaking at a press conference in Cairo alongside Vietnamese President Lương Cường, Sissi offered a grim assessment of the situation.

He stated that “the war in Gaza is no longer a war to achieve diplomatic objectives or to free hostages — it has become a war of starvation, annihilation, and the elimination of the Palestinian cause.”

This declaration is particularly significant given Egypt’s crucial role as a neighbour to Gaza and a long-standing mediator between Israel and Palestinian factions.

Cairo controls the Rafah border crossing, a vital lifeline for humanitarian aid entering the besieged enclave, and has been at the forefront of negotiations for ceasefires and hostage releases.

Sissi’s stark language reflects profound frustration with the catastrophic humanitarian crisis and the apparent deadlock in diplomatic resolutions.

The Egyptian leader also issued a warning to the international community, implying that a historical judgment awaits countries based on their actions during the conflict.

Sissi added that “history will hold many countries accountable for their stance on the war in Gaza, and the global human conscience will not remain silent for long.”

While the press conference was intended to mark diplomatic ties with Vietnam, President Sissi used the international platform to broadcast his government’s grave concerns over the war’s trajectory.
