Wike said that he had to convince other gubernatorial aspirants from larger ethnic groups in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, like the Ogonis, to step down for Fubara, even though his community is much smaller in comparison.

In a video shared by Channels TV from 15:30, Wike said the voting strength of Opobo is so small that it doesn’t even compare to the size of his ward in the state. He said the Ogonis, who have the largest population in the district, found it difficult to accept that someone from Opobo, a minority area, would be chosen as governor. He emphasized that despite this, he pleaded with the Ogonis and other larger groups to allow an Ijaw person, specifically from Opobo, to have the opportunity to lead.
