According to a report by Punch Newspapers on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kangar, Mallam Fatori area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, was met with strong resistance from Nigerian soldiers who engaged the insurgents in a fierce exchange of fire, killing six of them during the operation.
According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Lt. Col. Uba Sanni, the terrorists launched the assault around 4:30 a.m. using armed drones and mortar fire aimed at the military base.
Despite the intensity of the attack, troops maintained firm control of their position and responded swiftly with well-coordinated ground and air operations.
The troops, supported by Nigerien fighter jets, were able to counter the insurgents’ offensive effectively.
The air support played a crucial role in neutralizing the armed drones and dispersing the terrorist elements attempting to advance toward the base.
The superior firepower of the combined forces overwhelmed the attackers, forcing them to retreat into the nearby Tumbuns waterways, where they reportedly evacuated several of their casualties.
The successful defence of the base demonstrated the growing coordination and readiness of Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai.
Military officials attributed the victory to improved intelligence gathering, enhanced communication systems, and the increased synergy between Nigerian and Nigerien forces in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
He said, “The terrorists, overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordination of the joint force, retreated in disarray into the Tumbuns waterways, evacuating several of their casualties.”
The operation also highlighted the troops’ resilience and commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity, particularly in the northeastern region where insurgent activities have persisted for over a decade.
