Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress is implementing tactics designed to make 2027 easy for President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Oyinlola alleged that the party’s current strategy focuses on securing legislative dominance to control the president’s political future. “The tactics of the ruling party is to ensure that the president does not run in 2027. All he needs to do is to walk, because by the time he has the 2/3rd of the majority in the house, which he’s just two senators away. And by that way, he is secured for whatever he wants to do, and that’s why they must get more. It won’t be long before they get that too,” he stated.
The former governor’s comments come amid ongoing speculation about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s possible defection to the APC, following Wednesday’s defection of two Osun senators to the ruling party.
Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) both abandoned the PDP for the APC, prompting criticism from the governor’s administration.
Governor Adeleke’s Senior Special Assistant, Hezekiah Bamiji, dismissed the senators’ move as a strategic error by the lawmakers.
The defection wave extended to the House of Representatives, where two Osun PDP lawmakers also switched parties. Representatives Taofik Ajilesoro (Ife Central/East/North/South Federal constituency) and Omirin Olusanya (Atakunmosa East/Atakunmosa West/Ilesa East/Ilesa West Federal constituency) formally announced their PDP resignation through separate letters read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary sessions.
