Professor Yusufu Turaki, a respected elder statesman and academic, has stated that Nigerians are fully aware of the identity and pattern of those responsible for the killings across the country, but many are reluctant to speak out due to fear of ethnic and religious profiling.
In an interview with THE SUN on Sunday, November 2, 2025, Professor Turaki said the nature and style of the killings are well known and have been consistently reported by national and international journalists, researchers, and mainstream media outlets. He emphasized that most of these reports point to one group the Fulani as being behind the majority of terrorist activities, banditry, and kidnappings in Northern Nigeria.
Professor Turaki warned that silence and avoidance of the truth only worsen the insecurity crisis, and that acknowledging the ethnic dimension is crucial for finding lasting solutions.
He said, “The question assumes that Nigerians do not know who is killing who in Nigeria. The historical pattern and the style and nature of the killings are clearly well known. Only that Nigerians are afraid of casting any ethnic or religious profiling.” View, More,
