According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers on July 16, 2025, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has firmly debunked claims of a misunderstanding between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and the National Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, Senator Nenadi Usman.
Tanko made it explicitly clear to the media that the narratives suggesting a rift between Peter Obi and the Senator Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party were fabricated by propagandists intent on creating division between the two individuals.
He expressed strong disappointment and displeasure over the media coverage of these false claims, which he described as deliberate attempts to sow discord between Obi and his allies within the party.
Furthermore, Yunusa Tanko offered a clear explanation for Peter Obi’s presence at the recent campaign launch for the Labour Party’s Anambra State governorship candidate, Dr. George Moghalu.
He reminded the public that Peter Obi remains a committed member of the Labour Party, and his appearance at the campaign flag-off was a show of his continued support and dedication to the party and its candidates.
He said: “Peter Obi has consistently affirmed that he remains a member of the Labour Party under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman. He has also clearly stated his support for all individuals who had previously secured the party’s ticket to contest political positions.
“The rumour that Peter Obi has betrayed Senator Nenadi Usman is entirely baseless. It is a false narrative being peddled by opposition elements to distract.”
