The Edo PDP Deputy Director General of Communication and Strategy, Don Pedro Obaseki has alleged that the Local Government Chairman of Esan West LGA in Edo state was attacked and detained by the police after he reported the incident to them. He stated that the man was

subsequently whisked away to Abuja after he reported to the police station.

He condemned the political persecution as he questioned why the victim was detained and transferred to Abuja instead of being charged to court if he had committed a crime. He further emphasized that this was not an isolated incident, stating that in the last two to three weeks, 10 Chieftains of the PDP had been whisked away by the Nigerian police.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 9:32, ‘On the 18th of July, there was a shooting at the Benin City Airport where a policeman was killed. And everybody in Benin City, they know that the APC and their thugs were the ones doing the shooting that day. But till today, not one of them has been arrested. Just a couple of days ago, the LG Chairman of Esan West was attacked and he was shown on TV with a fractured body. And he made same report to the police. And the police two days ago now said what is your grouse?

The young man walked into the police station to lay his complaint. And the police detained him in the evening of Monday. And in the early hours of Tuesday, he was whisked away to Abuja. Even if he had committed an offense, you ought to charge him to Court in the area if jurisdiction according to the crime being committed.
