Some have seen Nyesom Wike’s recent comments as a threat, but Chibike Ikenga, the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee’s media secretary, has clarified the situation. Ikenga said to News Central TV in an interview from 00:49, that Wike had warned PDP governors not to meddle in the political affairs of Rivers State, rather than threatening anyone.

“The issue is that former governor Nyesom Wike and the FCT Minister did not threaten anybody,” said he. It was a warning, not a threat, that Wike made, according to Ikenga. “He told them that it is a statement of fact that if you do this in my state and if you continue to do this in my state, I will do the same in your own state,” said he again. Ikenga contended that Wike should be taken symbolically when he said something about “putting fire” to the states of interfering governors.

“Creating crisis in his state, in the PDP, is also creating crisis by putting fire,” stated the politician. Ikenga stressed that Wike was drawing attention to the dangers of political interference, which may cause people to lose interest in government and cause substantial political unrest. “No one was threatened by him. He was making it clear that he may cause problems in the states where the PDP governors are involved if you keep meddling in Rivers State, Ikenga said….VîêwMôrē
