Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has raised serious concerns about the security crisis in Plateau State.

In an interview on News Central TV from 12:03, Dalung revealed that the state government admitted to paying herders in a bid to secure peace in troubled communities, however, instead of peace, the situation has worsened with many areas now under attack.

According to Dalung, reports have identified those responsible for the violence but the government has failed to take proper action. “Even from reports of commission of enquiries of the Plateau crisis, there are so many reports. These reports pointed positively to those behind it. Had the government taken steps to unveil them?” he questioned.

He went on to share a shocking statement made by the Plateau State Governor. “The Governor said something that is scary, that they paid herders compensation so that they can have peace. Herders have been paid money so that we can have peace, but now we have full-fledged war,” Dalung stated.

He added that the situation has only gotten worse despite the payments. “64 communities have been displaced, so what’s happening?”, he asked.

Dalung’s comments have sparked outrage and concern among Nigerians especially those from affected areas. Many are questioning why money was paid to armed groups and why the violence continues despite efforts to end it.

Security analysts say the government must be more transparent and hold those responsible for the attacks accountable. Paying for peace without addressing the root causes of conflict, they warn may only empower violent groups further.

The crisis in Plateau continues to displace thousands with families forced to flee their homes as attacks spread. Dalung’s remarks add to growing calls for a new and more effective strategy to restore lasting peace in the state.
