According to Vanguard, a disturbing wave of criminal activity may be unfolding in Imo State, as a man narrowly escaped what appears to have been an attempted kidnap for possible organ harvesting. Onyekwere Edward Emeka, a native of Olakwo Enyiogugu, shared his terrifying experience after boarding a commercial bus on May 28, 2025. “The driver asked me to give him ₦1,000 change. I handed it over and suddenly began to feel dizzy,” Emeka recalled, describing the exact moment his nightmare began.

Emeka had been waiting at the Fire Service Roundabout in Owerri around 8 a.m. when an Imo transport vehicle pulled up. Believing it to be a normal commute, he entered the bus without suspicion. Soon after the driver made the request for change, Emeka lost consciousness. When he awoke, he found himself blindfolded, tied up, and lying in an unfamiliar bush. His cries for help drew the attention of a passerby who, after listening to his story, untied him and informed him he was in Ngor Okpala. The stranger declined to give his name, fearing he might be wrongly accused, but took a photo for documentation and guided Emeka out of the forest.

He was dropped off at Ihitte Junction along the Owerri-Aba Road and helped onto a vehicle back to Owerri. Though visibly shaken, Emeka did not report the incident to the police, citing a lack of details about the vehicle and its driver. Instead, he issued a somber warning to the public: “Eternal vigilance should be our watchword.
