According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia State, which is currently under the control of the Labour Party.

He emphasized that the party is committed to ensuring that the state aligns more closely with national policies and benefits from federal initiatives.

Kalu highlighted that President Ahmed Tinubu is planning to establish a seaport in the South East geopolitical zone.

He explained that the project is aimed at enhancing trade and commerce in the region, making business activities more accessible to local traders and boosting economic growth.

According to Kalu, the President recognizes that the South East has a strong trading population, and bringing a seaport closer to the people would facilitate easier import and export activities.

He also stressed that Abia State’s integration into mainstream politics is essential for the state to fully benefit from federal projects and policies.

Kalu suggested that aligning with the ruling party would provide the state with more resources and opportunities for development.
