During a serious discussion in the Nigerian National Assembly about the rising insecurity in the country, Honourable Zainab Gimba shared a shocking story. She spoke about a recent Boko Haram attack in her constituency, which led to the death of over 20 soldiers at a military base run by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
Gimba explained that when she visited the base after the attack, the commanding officer revealed some worrying details. Out of about 100 soldiers meant to be stationed there, only six were Nigerians. She expressed concern, pointing out that Nigeria should have more soldiers representing the country in such an important security operation.
She said the officer told her that this wasn’t the first attack on the base. However, the attack on March 24 was different. It was more violent and advanced. The officer told her that Boko Haram fighters used drones during the assault, which made the attack even more dangerous.
But what was even more surprising was what the officer said next. According to him, some of the Boko Haram members involved in the attack were white men.
“The insurgents came to that formation and attacked the formation with drones, and he told me, he confessed that even within the Boko Harams that came, there have been several white men within them,” he said.
This suggests that foreign individuals may be helping or fighting alongside Boko Haram, raising fears of outside influence in Nigeria’s ongoing security problems. She called for urgent action to strengthen Nigeria’s security presence in the region.
